Himalaya Yarn was started in 1996 when I began working with a Tibetan family in Nepal. Working together, we brought Recycled Silk yarn to the attention of hand knitters in North America. Since then, our small cottage industry has expanded to include a variety of yarns made of silk, wool and plant based fibers.
Our mission is to bring unusual yarns to hand knitters while helping to employ people in Nepal.
Our yarns are made using the least amount of technology possible. Many are hand spun and/or hand dyed. We value the work of human handspeople, not machines, are given work and the result is yarns that are as unique and varied as each individual who makes them.
We hope you enjoy our yarns and patterns! Sincerely, Anni Kristensen
